Wendy's 2012 Blog...

Hello Friends!

Well, the off-season is officially over and the 2012 LPGA season has begun. I am skipping the first event in Australia, but will be playing the next two in Thailand and Singapore. I’m looking forward to some fun in the sun. We tend to get a lot over there being so close to the equator!

It was so nice being home the whole month of December. Here's a Christmas picture Nate and I took on our front porch with the puppies. Always fun to kick back with the "kids" and enjoy some down time. The winter has been mild back on the ranch with lots of days in the 40's and plenty of blue skies. I don't mind it a bit when the snow stays away.

Calving season is right around the corner. Here's a picture from our 7-mile cattle drive last month. We pushed 116 head of cattle home by horseback through wide-open wheat fields. I wasn't on a horse, but I was out ahead making sure everything was ready for the cows when they made their final turn home.

One of the highlights of my off-season was a visit to the Center for the Intrepid (CFI) at Ft Sam Houston, in San Antonio, TX. My dad is a retired Army Colonel who served twice in the Vietnam War and helped set the visit up. CFI is an incredible rehab facility for military soldiers to recover from their injuries on duty, whether overseas or at war. Many of the soldiers lost multiple limbs or were severely wounded and burned from their missions mainly to destroy IED's (improvised explosive devices, also known as roadside bombs). Their sacrifice is way beyond measure and their determination to recover and live life again is a constant inspiration to me. Thanks to each soldier who took the time to share their experience and life with me. It was my honor for sure.

These are a few pictures of some of the fine men I met while at CFI. It should also be noted that PING, another partner of mine, generously provides each wounded warrior, if they so chose, a set of clubs that are specifically fitted to their needs. PING also donated hats for my visit, which were a huge hit among the troops. Thank you PING for all your efforts! And thank you Col. Becky Hooper for the tour of CFI and all you do for our Wounded Warriors.

And now it's time to tee it up and start Season 17 for W2! I've made trips to San Diego, Phoenix, Arlington and San Antonio to get prepared for the year. I enjoyed fine tuning my game with my swing coach as well as working with Lynn and Pia at Vision 54 for a few days. I feel "great" about the season and look forward to all the opportunities that lie ahead.

I hope to see many of you out there this year, though I understand you might not make it to Thailand. J Our first domestic event is the RRDonnelley Founders Cup, hosted by one of my favorite partners RRDonnelley at Wildfire in Phoenix, AZ. Then we return to La Costa in Carlsbad, CA for the Kia Classic, followed by our first major, the Kraft Nabisco Championship, in Rancho Mirage.

Time to make the birdies...
